It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Don Hernbeck, aged 96, who entered eternal rest on July 3, 2026, due to natural causes. Born on October 24, 1929, Don proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to duty and service.
Following his honorable discharge, Don devoted over 50 years of his life to Norge Industries in Herrin, where he contributed his talents in various capacities, ultimately retiring as a skilled welder. His dedication and work ethic remained evident as he continued to serve his community as a friendly greeter at the Marion Wal-Mart for an additional 10 years. Alongside his commitments at Norge, Don also lent his watchful eye as a security guard for the Zeigler Coal Repair Shop.
A man of deep faith, Don attended Lone Oak Church in Herrin, where he found joy in singing bass with the choir. He had a passion for sports, particularly the St. Louis Cardinals, and held a spirited enthusiasm for gardening and automotive projects. As a proud alumnus of Herrin High School's class of 1948, Don was known for his athletic prowess and love for life.
