Obituary

Carterville- Louis R. Pollard lived a remarkable 85 years filled with love and dedication.  He passed away at 10:22 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Louis was born on November 16, 1939 in Williamson County, Illinois to Calvin Ramey and Esther (Jarvis) Pollard.  He married his beloved wife- Elaine Conley in Williamson County.  He was a devoted husband for 66 wonderful years and a loving father to two daughters.

He had a fulfilling career with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 40 years before enjoying a well deserved retirement.

Louis cherished the simple pleasures in life.  He found joy in mowing the lawn, dining out, tending to his garden and fishing during his younger years.  A passionate fan of Cardinals Baseball, he delighted in watching a good game or a police drama on the TV or playing Monopoly or Solitaire on his computer.

What truly defined Louis' life was his cherished role as a "Girl Dad and Girl Grandpa".  In addition to his two daughters, he was blessed with four granddaughters and two great granddaughters.  As the family's patriarch, he embraced the importance of dance lessons, fancy dresses, recitals and stylish hairdos.

His strong family values and loving heart will always be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife- Elaine Pollard of Carterville; daughters- Sheila Scillufo and husband Bob of Herrin and Pam Will and husband Marty of Hurst; granddaughters- Bethany Augustine and husband Adam of Oswego, IL, Fallon Scillufo of Herrin, Elaina Gilley of Carbondale and Aliya Gilley of St. Louis, MO; great granddaughters- Evelyn and Kinsley Augustine of Oswego as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and sister in law- Marcia (David) Johnson of Lake St. Louis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Talmadge Pollard and sister- Arlene Keirn.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Herrin First Baptist Church/ 1500 S 13th St/ Herrin, Illinois  62948.  Pastor Mark Goldman will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at Blairsville Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service, Saturday at Herrin First Baptist Church.  Arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin.

Memorial donations are suggested to Herrin First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church or mailed to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home/ 501 S. 12th St./ Herrin, IL  62948.
