Mt. Vernon - Lois Southerd, 90, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Benton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Lois was born on June 18, 1934, in Pikeville, KY to Lewis and Alpha (Sword) Maggard.  She married Charles Southerd and he preceded her in death on December 26,1994. She was a hardworking lady who was employed for many years at Dobbs in Mt. Vernon and the shoe factory prior to that. She loved spending time with her family more than anything; and in her spare time, she enjoyed watching the old shows on TV, listening to classic country music and making floral arrangements. She is survived by her sons Dennis (Nancy) Johnson of Effingham, William (Jane) Southerd of Christopher, step-son Charles Ray (Pam) Southerd of Fairfield, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and her sister JoAnn Coleman of Richmond, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Lesta Gibson and special friend Larry Seidel. A graveside memorial service will be held at Johnson Memorial Park in Pikeville, KY,  and a Celebration of Life will be held sometime in the future.
