John A. Churan, age 88, of Carterville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. He was born on March 30, 1938, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and lived a life dedicated to service, nature, and family.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, John served during peacetime and carried the values of discipline and dedication throughout his life. He worked tirelessly for many years as a District Forester for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, overseeing the management of over five counties. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking, often finding joy in working with his hands. An incredible marksman, he relished in the art of shooting, showcasing his expertise and passion for precision.
John is survived by his two daughters, Tienne Kollars and husband Michael of Carterville and Tana Davis and husband Tommy of Maine; four grandchildren, Hunter Kollars, Jaden Kollars, Eliana Kollars, and Anton Davis; and his siblings, brother Tom Churan and wife Stacey and sister Debbie Churan. Together, they carry on his legacy of hard work, love, and devotion to family.
In honor of John's life, memorial services will be held at a future date to be announced. Family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating his memory. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, supporting the fight against cancer that has touched so many lives.
John A. Churan will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to nature, devotion to his family, and the positive impact he made in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
John was preceded in death by: parents, wife, infant child and brother- George Churan.
