Janice Mezo, 73, of Herrin, passed away at 6:59 PM, on Monday, May 12, 2025 at her home.

Janice was born on December 18, 1951 in Granite City to parents Olan and Leota Rutherford. Janice was retired from Allen Industries in Herrin where she worked for 12 years prior to her retirement in 1988.

She was a hardworking woman who enjoyed raising her family and spending as much time as she could with them. She was a talented artist and liked gardening vegetables and flowers as well. Additionally, Janice was a Christian and of Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her former spouse; Thomas Mezo.

Janice is survived by her children Tony Mezo of Herrin, David Rutherford of Crainville, Daniel Rutherford and spouse Rachel of DuQuoin, Thomas Mezo of Steelville and Jennifer Mezo of Carbondale; nine Grandchildren, three Great Grandchildren, and brothers- Thomas Yates and Carl Yates.

Private graveside memorial services will be held at a later date at Herrin City Cemetery.

Memorials donations may be made to the family for her granddaughter's ongoing education and may be mailed to the funeral home.
