Herrin- Genevieve L. "Genny Lu" Shadowens, 54, of Herrin, passed away at 1:40 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Genny was born on April 11, 1971 in Herrin to Clifton B. and Debra (Lingle) Gosnell. She was a 1990 graduate of Herrin High School and went on to further her education with phlebotomy and health department certifications. She married Robert A "Rob" Shadowens on December 15, 1989 at Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin. She was a Christian and of Baptist faith.

After graduation, she began her career at Park Avenue Healthcare and then worked many years for Herrin Unit #4 Schools. She started as a cook at the High School before transferring to the Middle School to become Head Cook.

Genny loved football and Herrin Tiger Sports; especially watching her children play. She was a longtime board member for the Herrin Youth Sports Football League and volunteered her time working in the concession stand. She was rarely seen without a Coke or sweet tea in her hands. She loved her pets and was also talented at making themed and personalized t-shirts, cups and key chains and enjoyed watching dramas and reality tv when she had free time. She was a talented cook and her Thanksgiving meals and baked goods were second to none. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them; especially her grandson Knox.

Survivors include her mother- Debbie Gosnell and Lisa Emery of Herrin; husband- Rob Shadowens of Herrin; daughter- Kylie Shadowens and husband Brad Rehder of Herrin; sons- Kameron Shadowens and fiance Hallie Ragain of Johnston City and Karson Shadowens and Amelia Baldwin of Herrin; grandson- Knox Shadowens of Herrin (plus two more on the way); godfather- Gene Sizemore; godmother- Barbara Brandon; several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Lone Oak Baptist Church/809 Ryan Drive/Energy, Illinois 62933. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, September 19, 2025 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy.

Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the church or may be mailed to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home/ 501 S. 12th/Herrin, IL 62948.
