"Chuck" Dietzel
November 21, 1942 – December 27, 2024
Marion- Charles M. "Chuck" Dietzel, 82, of Marion, passed away at 5:00 PM, Friday, December 27, 2024 at his home with his family.
He was born on November 21, 1942 in McKees Rocks, PA to Carl and Olga (Gupp) Dietzel. He married Joan Quayle on October 30, 1965 in Denver, CO.
He served his country during the Vietnam War by enlisting in the United States Air Force. Once honorably discharged he earned a degree in metallurgy from Michigan Tech University and began a long career at various mines throughout the United States. Most recently he was the Prep-Plant Maintenance Manager for Kerr-McGee Galatia Mine and retired in 1999 after a 28 year career.
Chuck valued his family and enjoyed spending time with them and visiting his grandchildren. He was handy and spent time woodworking, landscaping and gardening. He would spend his time enjoying life, watching birds, socializing with friends and playing the stock market.
Survivors include his wife Joan Dietzel of Marion; daughters- Shari Dietzel of Bann, Germany and Cynthia Davis of Pickerington, OH; son- Jeff Dietzel and wife Shelby of Laramie, WY; grandchildren- Alisa Dietzel, Cory Davis and Ashlie Davis; sister- Sandra Dietzel of Briny Breezes, FL; brother- Gary Dietzel and wife Sandy of Lowell, MI as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday July 25, 2025 at Mounds City National Cemetery. Services will be officiated and military rites performed by members of the Villa Ridge American Legion Post 178 Honor Guard with assistance from the United States Air Force. Memorial arrangements were entrusted to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Touch of Nature and may be mailed to McCluskie-Miller Funeral Home/ 501 S. 12th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
